The 16th Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts opens the call for film submissions starting from February 28th until 15 April, 2013.The festival's administration has also launched the new official poster to be used in the upcoming 16th round of the Ismailia International Film Festival that will start from June 4th until June 9th, 2013.

The 16th Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts Launches Film Editing Workshop

In collaboration with Screen Institute Beirut (SIB), the 16th Ismailia International Festival forDocumentaries and Shorts organizes an editing workshop intended for feature length documentaries that are currently in post-production. The workshop will be held within the framework of the festival starting from the 4th of June till the 9th of June, 2013.

A selection committee will choose three teams, each team comprising of a director and an editor, to attend the workshop with their projects. Three professional tutors, or masters, will conduct the workshop; each master will accompany one of the teams in an intense five-day personalized hands-on training. After the program, the Ismailia Festival gives the opportunity to the participants to contact their designated masters via Skype for a follow-up.

The Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts is one of the major film festivals in the Arab world, and the first in the region to be exclusively dedicated to documentaries and shorts. The festival was first launched in 1988 under the presidency of filmmaker Kamal Abdel Aziz, Director of TheEgyptian Film Center, Producer and screenwriter Mohamed Hefzy has been selected to be the Festival Director, which has become a hub for film professionals and cinephiles.

Screen Institute Beirut (SIB) was created in November 2009 with the aim of supporting ambitious and talented documentary filmmakers in the Arab region. So far the only fund in the Arab world devoted particularly to documentary, it offers grants for the development, production and post-production of films by emerging and proven talents from the Arab world. It also offers physical production resources and professional support for young professionals to allow them produce films that would otherwise not be realized.

The workshop opens the call for film projects from countries across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region including (Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain & Yemen). Deadline for projects submission is May 7th, 2013.
