Ali El-Gazouly
Graduated in the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1956, Ali El-Gazouli is a Photographer and a documentary Filmmaker. He also joined Faculty of Fine Arts as a non-degree student. As a photographer, he took part in several prominent feature fiction films, such as Mohamed Khan’s “A Return of a Citizen”. Influenced by his visual art background and his passion for details, he was titled as “The Poet of the Documentary Films” and made numerous remarkable films including; “Afternoon Fishing”, “Hakim Saint Catherine”, “El-Rayes Gaber”, “Rashid”, “Tofola wa Ibdaa”, “Elshaheed and El-Midan” about the Egyptian Revolution and many others.

Afternoon Fishing

Synopsis:

Unlike most of documentary films filled with emotionless information, El-Gazouli’s film portrays an eventful tiring day for a little boy living beside Lake Manzala. He first escorts his older sister in a boat, then he goes to school, and afterwards he pursues his hobbies of fishing and drawing.

Mohamed Malas
Born in 1945, Mohamed Malas is a renowned Syrian Filmmaker who studied filmmaking at Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography. With Ahlam Al-Madina, he started his filmmaking career in 1983, then he directed several internationally acclaimed feature films which received numerous international awards including; Al-lail (1992), Bab el makam (2005), and Ladder to Damascus (2013).
