With Total of Four Film Projects Win Funding Grants and Production Services
The 2nd Ismailia Co-production Platform Reveals the List of Award-Winning Prizes

Only one day before the closing of the 17th Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts, the Ismailia Co-production Platform has closed its second edition on Saturday after declaring the films that won the prizes and funding grants out of ten documentary projects taking part in this round of the platform.
As a film at the post-production stage, Ahmed Fawzy Saleh's Waiting for Justice received a grant of $ 15000 worth services provided by Aroma. The film traces the story of two enthusiastic football fans who suddenly find themselves charged and sentenced to death for their alleged participation in murdering Al-Ahly fans during the famous massacre that took place at Port Said stadium. This sentence could be put into effect within a day, a month or a year. Apparently, their lives might seem normal; spending their time in their houses or in coffee shops with friends; yet if go a little deeper in their lives you can realize that nothing is normal at all.
Lebanese Director Eliane Raheb's Miguel Wars received Aroma's $ 5000 prize for films in Post-production stage. The film depicts Miguel's journey of self-confrontation and his quest for true love.
Seen Film Editing Award was granted to Iraqi Director Dhyaa Khaled Joda's Dance with a Bullet, while Claire BelHussein's Man behind the Microphone received a $ 5000 grant provided by Hesham El-Ghanem, Chief Operation Manager at Kuwait National Cinema Company on behalf of Kuwaiti Cinema National Cinema and Front Row Entertainment for Distribution.
The Ismailia Co-production jury members consists of the documentary Director Tahani Rached, Director and Producer Jad Abi Khalil, Co-founder at Beirut DC organization and the head of DOCmed program, and Irit Neidhart, Founder of Mec Film which is specialized in distributing and producing films from the Arab World.
During the platform, direct one-to-one meetings and sessions took place between projects' representatives and the guests whose interests vary between co-production, distribution and documentary filmmaking. In addition, the platform jury members have also conducted meetings with the representatives to select the projects that won the development and funding grants.
The second edition hosted 14 filmmaking professional delegates whose expertise varies between production, distribution and documentary filmmaking and funding. The list includes names such as Producer and Distributor Daniel Ziskind, representative of Zad Communications and Production; Director and Producer Hala Alabdalla, Director of the Syrian Ramad Films for film distribution; Film Distributor Jessica Khoury from MC Distribution; Director and Producer Jad Abi-Khalil, founding member of Beirut DC, the cultural association for the development of Arab cinema, and Director of the DOCmed program; Spanish Producer Marta Andreu, Founder of Playtime Films studio and board member of the Berlin International Film Festival's World Cinema Fund; Producer and Distributor Michel Zana from SD Distribution; American Producer Mike Lerner; Omar El-Kadi, Acquisitions and Sales at MC Distribution and Programmer of Beirut's Metropolis movie theater; Filmmaker Reem Badr Co-founder of The Documentary Story Platform in Jordan; Lebanese Rima Mismar, Film Programs Manager at the Arab Fund For Arts and Culture (AFAQ); Kuwaiti Producer Talal El Muhanna; Valerio Caruso Director of Cineuropa.org and one of the officials of the Euromed Audiovisual; and Director Viola Shafik, Head of Studies of the Documentary Campus MENA Program and Jury member of the Berlin International Film Festival's World Cinema Fund, and Hesham El-Ghanem, the Chief Operation Manager at Kuwait National Cinema Company.
In collaboration with MENA training program provided by Doc Camps in Berlin, the platform also organized a workshop on developing documentary projects for directors.
The Ismailia Co-production Platform is the first Arab co-production forum primarily dedicated to documentaries. It provides filmmakers with opportunities to have meetings with industry experts, sales agents, and funders. Filmmakers from all over the world, who have a project with "an Arab connection" (director, producer, co-producer, main talent, location, subject matter, etc...) are encouraged to apply with feature-length creative documentaries either at the development or post-production phase.
