Four New Films Added to the Festival's Official Competitions
The Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts Reveals Tributes, Special Screenings, Panorama and Soccer Films Programs
Cairo, Egypt | Tuesday- 27 May, 2014:
The Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts has revealed the lineup of programs, film screenings Out of Competition and festival tributes in its 17th edition which will be held from June 3rd until June 8th, 2014. The festival also added four new films to its official competitions making the total number of the participating films 46.

The festival announced the participation of the Egyptian film Waves in the Long Documentary Films Competition, which is directed by Egyptian Ahmed Nour who used a personal reflection of the events of the January 25th Revolution through the city of Suez where the first action was triggered. Two films were also added to the Short Documentary Films Competition; the Slovenian film My Name is Mirror by Katarina Resek and the Polish film Joanna by Aneta Kopacz, whereas the Finish film The High Heel High to the Animation Films Competition by Christer Lindström.

This year the festival's special screenings include; the Italian documentary About The Resistance, which highlights the role played by cinema as a means to rehabilitate the only movie theater in a small town, southern Italy; Tamer Ezzat's A Place Called Home which screens in memory of the late Scriptwriter Nadine Shams; whereas the third screening features a very rare documentary which screens for the first time after years of omission.

This edition is also honoring Egyptian Director Ali El Ghazouly whose Afternoon Fishing documentary film will screen as part of the tributes program, which also includes the screening of Syrian Director Mohamed Malas's The Dream and On the Sand, under the Sun.

The Panorama of Egyptian Documentary section includes 3 films: Jehane Noujaim's The Square which was nominated to the Oscars 2014, Crop by Marouan Omara and Johanna Domke and Director/ Scholar Viola Shafik's Arej - Scent of a Revolution which had its world premiere at Berlin International Film Festival two months ago.

Keeping up with the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in Brazil concurrently with the prominent film event, the Ismailia festival is launching a new category for soccer films, which includes three films about remarkable football legends; Maradona by Kusturica by the renowned Serbian Director Emir Kusturica, Puskás Hungary by Director Tamás Almási and The Two Escobars by Jeff Zimbalist and Michael Zimbalist.

During a press conference, the festival announced that the opening film of this edition will be the feature-length documentary Jews of Egypt: The End of Journey by the Egyptian Director Amir Ramses, marking its world premiere before participating in the festival's Long Documentary Films Competition. The film is a sequel tp Jews of Egypt which gained wide success when it screened at several prominent international film festivals.

The festival's jury list for the Documentary Competition is headed by Syrian Director, Mohammad Malas, and includes the Egyptian Producer and Director Wael Omar, Egyptian Director Hala Lotfy, French Producer Marianne Lere, Greek Director Dimitris Koutsiabasakos as jury members.

Whereas, the jury list for the Short Films is headed by Director and Producer Marianne Khoury, and includes the French Filmmaker Georges Bollon, Director of Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival in France, and Lebanese Critic, Hauvick Habechian.

The Ismailia festival awards the best two films in the main four competitions. The festival prizes are:

- The Golden Tablet and a sum of $ 3000 will be awarded to the director of the best film in each section of the competition.

- A Jury Prize will be given to two films in each section of the competition and is of the sum of $ 2000.

- An Audience Award that will be given to the winning film.
