Q&A on Asiya, ALZAIMOUR, What to Do Before Midnight of August 1st

A Q&A was held to discuss short films Asiya, ALZAIMOUR and What to do before midnight of August 1st on the 3rd day of Ismailia Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts.
The directors of the films Mohammed Saud Al Harthy, Pierre van de Kerckhove and Omar Nayef attended the Q&A while film critic Nahed Nasser asked them about their films.
Harthy said he loves the Italian and Indian films, adding that Indian films influenced youths in Oman.
His film, Asiya, reviews the life of an Omani young man who wants to watch an Indian film but he can not enter the cinema because he is underage. He tries to enter the cinema via various ways but every time the guard catches him.
While van de Kerckhove, director of ALZAIMOUR, said the film reflects a private crisis in which his wife decided to leave him after a marriage that lasted for 22 years.
After this incident, the director decided to make a film about oblivion in which he wanted to say that if the mind forgets, the body can not forget.
Nayef, director of What to Do Before Midnight of August 1st, said the film tackles the ideas that controls the third generation especially if they knew that they are living the last night in their lives.
He said he decided to insert soft music in his film because it reflects the feelings of the characters.
When asked about religion in the film, he said that the film is not discussing religion and fear, adding that the characters were surrendering to the present moment.
The 20th edition of the Ismailia Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts is led by Head of the National Center for Cinema Dr. Khalid Abdul Jalil and film critic Essam Zakaria
