Speech by Dr. Ahmed Awaad Festival Chairman about Ismailia International Film Festival 18th
Egypt, Cairo | Sunday - 10 April, 2016:
Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries & Shorts Films will be acknowledged by all my generation of filmmakers.
The birth of this festival saw the birth of my generation; also, it saw the first award I received in my life. The festival has grown up, and we have grown up with it as well, until the day came for me to chair it; and I was once of its making. In this festival, we were introduced to the cinematic experiences of the year; and from it, the films made by my generation went to international festivals.
Our primary objective was for this festival to come back to the light.
Moreover, the ulterior motive was for us to be opened to the whole world and so filmmakers from a more versatile and wide world can meet and interact without losing sight of the importance and excellence of the artistic level of the various festival competitions.
Also, We have been interested in parallel events associated with the festival so it can resonate across the geographical perimeters of Ismailia and Suez Canal during the celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of the nationalization of the Suez Canal- such great event that contributed to the shaping of the modern history of Egypt, since the Suez Canal cities were the scene of such important historical events...
Cinema brings us … we meet… we are introduced... we interact… we go away… but cinema stays.
