Samir Ouf
Samir Ouf was born 1942 in Cairo. He studied at the High Cinema Institute from which he graduated in 1965. Ouf worked in the beginning of his artistic career as assistant director for Kamal El-Sheikh, Tawfik Saleh and Shadi Abdel-Salam. Ouf was associated with the latter as his partner in the preproduction of his long film THE MUMMY and his short film THE ELOQUENT PEASANT. Ouf also developed an artistic style that distinguished him from his generation to the point that rarely a film he made was awarded at a local or an international film festival.
His film PEARL OF THE NILE received the Medal of St. Mark’s in Venice Festival 1972 and a certificate of appreciation from London Festival, a photography award from the Documentary and Short Films Festival in Egypt, and in 1973 the Silver Peacock Award from New Delhi Festival. Ouf’s TAIBAH’SSONG also received the Photography Award from the Documentary and Short Film Festival in Egypt 1974 and the Egyptian Critics Association Award of the same year. As for his film PASSENGERS TRAVELING TO THE NORTH TO THE SOUTH, it won an award the Documentary and Short Film Festival in Egypt 1975. In the same year, this film received an award from Grenoble
